Penguin Parade Debuts
On September 10, 2023, CrabDance Zoo unveiled its latest crowd-pleaser — the Penguin Parade. Held daily at 2 PM in the Penguin Pavilion, this event features 15 African and Humboldt penguins waddling along a 50-foot path as visitors cheer from the sidelines. Launched after months of training by our dedicated keepers, the parade has quickly become a must-see, blending fun with education about these charming birds.
The idea stemmed from Head Keeper Maria Lopez, who noticed the penguins’ curiosity during routine walks. “They’re natural performers,” she says. “We trained them with positive reinforcement — treats and toys — to make it a joyful experience.” The path, lined with teal barriers, winds past the main viewing area, giving guests a close-up look at the penguins’ quirky strides. An announcer shares facts about their habitats and threats like climate change.
Since its debut, attendance has spiked 20%, with families raving about the interactive twist. “My kids couldn’t stop laughing,” said visitor Jenna Miles. Future plans include themed parades for holidays and expanded educational segments.
